Item + Pet Practice

Hello everyone. I have decided that I would like to improve my skills in item art and I figured I might as well show you all. I would love some critiques, just don't be too mean please. 
And here is the pet I did. It is supposed to be the same species as the one in the Suggestions board, but a different theme.

I don't think I can offer critique. xD Except maybe, what type of axe is that in the beginning? Looks painful either way you swing it, owies. ;3;

For critique, did you want to have sketch type help?...if that makes sense D;

Could you try your hand in a full tin can and some weapons? Maybe some eggs from a bird's nest?

I really like the leaf and I actually don't think it has anything that needs to be changed!
How would you like for it to be used for RJ?
I tried working on the can a bit:
